The Department for Transport (DfT) has enabled the piloting of Automated Passenger Services (APS) and has commissioned the National Centre for Social Research (NatCen) to conduct a study to explore the safeguarding considerations associated with APS and identify good practice to support its future deployment in the UK.

As part of this study, we are inviting operational and frontline staff from a range of transport modes, including taxis, private hire vehicles, rail, DLR and the London Underground to take part in a one-to-one online discussion taking place between 19th October and 6th November (via Microsoft Teams), which will last up to 30 minutes. The discussion will cover a range of topics, including:

-Your experiences of and views on safeguarding challenges, particularly where there is no onboard staff member.

-Your views on how passengers can report and escalate incidents remotely, and the support remote staff need to manage incidents.

-Your views on the wellbeing risks and support needs of APS staff (e.g. remote operators and in-person support personnel).

-Your views on best practices in safeguarding passengers and staff that could be transferred to APS.

-Your recommendations for future operations of APS.
